Chapter 12: White

I slowly opened my eyes and found myself surrounded by white in every direction. I couldn’t tell what kind of space I was in. It was like the Matrix or something.

Did I die? I remember… I remember bleeding, remember feeling my organs sliding out of the opening in my stomach, but there wasn’t a mark on me. And inside of me, I felt… I felt a warm calm that I’ve never experienced before.

There was a figure moving towards me. I watched carefully and I couldn’t help gaping.

God was walking toward me.

There he was, with long white hair and a full white beard, wearing white robes and golden sandals, just how they portray him on the Simpson’s or other shows like that, glowing and towering above me.

I looked around and gazed up at him as he looked down at me with a bemused expression, “Am I in Heaven?”

He smiled a wide, closed-mouth smile, “I suppose you could say that.”

“Are you seriously God?”

He nodded, “Many on your world call me that, but on other worlds, I am called Iehova.”

I blinked. That made sense, I guess, “And you seriously look like that? The way they draw you in cartoons and all that?”

He chuckled, a rich, mirthful laugh that came from deep inside, “I have no physical form and my normal appearance can be quite overwhelming, so I sought through your mind to find an image I could use for you to most easily acclimate yourself.”

Again, that made sense. Now for the tough question, “Why am I here?”

His smile faded and he sighed unhappily, “Because you failed, Sebastian.”

I gaped, “I what?”

“You failed,” he repeated, “You see, your blood, when it was spilled, reacted with the air and caused a massive explosion that destroyed the universe. Everyone and everything you’ve ever known is dead.”

A cold chill moved up my spine as ice filled my veins. “My mom?” I whispered. I couldn’t stand spending a single moment with my mother. She was easily the most irritating person on the entire planet, but as it is said; even the most heartless criminal loves his mother.

“I’m afraid so, but fear not, she and many of your other loved ones reside here.”

I wanted to throw up. There as no way… We failed? The good guy never fails. How could the entire world be…gone? Just like that?”

“What about the Sprites? And Gavin? They were from some other place so…”

“Their spirits have been returned to Valif for him to care for, as they are his children.”

I couldn’t help but feel a stronger sadness than I had before. My mother was here in Heaven, but Mink and I had formed a bond that I hadn’t felt before, a true friendship, and I missed him.

“So when do I get to… you know, go through the pearly gates and all that good stuff?”

He frowned, “Oh, you don’t.”

I could see amusement sparkling in his eyes that looked like they held galaxies inside of them, “Say what?”

“No, this was just a brief intermission. You have to go back to existing.”

I was confused, “But Mo’kure destroyed the universe. Do I have to go exist in another universe now?”

He shook his head, “No, you will return to your universe. Mo’kure likes to believe she is powerful so I let her believe she won. Now I will fix things.”

“Fix things?”

He grinned and snapped his fingers.

And everything went black.
