Chapter 10: Her Return

“Bastian!” Claire called as she entered her house, Frankie entering behind her carrying several large bags.

“He is here?” another woman asked, following in behind Frankie.

“Grandma?” I called back from the top of the stairs. I came down in only boxers and an a-line. Frankie was staring at me while I was staring at Esmeralda behind my grandmother. Sheesh, where did this lady keep her tent and crystal ball? “Welcome back.”

“Thank you, baby,” Grandma said happily and sat down at the kitchen table. “Did you eat alright? And did you get the shed all cleaned up?”

“Yeah about that,” I replied and pulled out and chair, sitting in it backwards with my arms resting across the back, “What was up with all of that shit?”

“We felt it would be easier for you to come to terms with the fact that your Grandmother is a witch if you are able to see the evidence for yourself rather than simply telling you. We had originally planned for her to be here with you, but there was a coven emergency and we thought you would be able to handle things by yourself while Clairith and Franc were away,” the gypsy that had followed my grandma home spouted out like I gave a shit about what she was saying.

“Uh, yeah, who the fuck are you?”

“Bastian!” Claire exclaimed, “This is Gladysia, the head of my coven. Please do not speak so vulgarly around her and show her more respect.”

“So you’re a witch?” I said, giving my grandma an incredulous stare, “And that’s what all of the eyeballs and shit were for?”

“Yes,” Claire replied, “We use them in our potions and rituals. I take it you met the sprites as well?”

“Yeah. Mink’s ok. Tink is too, I guess, but Riki is just a dick. Oh, and I kind of summoned Gavin.”

Claire blinked at me and gave me a wide-eyed stare, “Why on earth would you do that?”

I shrugged, “Mink was all torn up about it and we figured he could help us get that guy out of the mirror. Did you want me to figure that out by myself too? Because I did.”

“Stupid boy!” Gladysia bellowed, “Why would you release that creature from its holding?!”

Again, I just shrugged, “He said he’d give me answers that you weren’t offering. Hasn’t yet, but I just haven’t been in the mood for all of this right now. Too busy figuring out why you didn’t tell me I’m the one destined to destroy the fucking universe or whatever the hell. Don’t you think that’s kind of important information to tell me? And here I thought I was just so manically depressed delinquent like the rest of America’s youth, but no, I’m some fucking prophecy. Thanks for telling me.”

“I had planned on being here with you, Bastian,” Grandma Claire said worriedly, “But we had a very big problem in Franklin that needed to be dealt with immediately and we needed you to understand what is happening so we could not wait and-”

“What’s happening?” I hissed, cutting her off. Claire closed her eyes and I shifted my glare to the coven leader, “What is going on? Why couldn’t this wait?”

Gladysia also closed her eyes, “The Possible Day is fast approaching.”

“What is that?”

She sighed, “The Possible Day is the day that you will either be killed and Iehova’s world will be destroyed or the Guardian will come and stop your death and Mo’kurei will have lost.”

I sighed. “What day is it?”

“We don’t know,” replied Claire. I gave her a baleful look and she continued, “The day is prophesized and there are signs of its imminence, but we do not know the specific day. We only know it is soon, very soon.”

“Ok,” I couldn’t stop sighing in frustration. Frankie kept staring at me with this look on his face and Gladysia would’ve dropped dead if I had a genie to grant wishes, but I had to focus on my possible soon-death. “So what are we doing to keep me from catalyzing the end of the world?”

“I have brought Gladys here to do a search with me to help find the Guardian. She is a far more powerful witch than I and her search will reach farther than I have the ability.”

I nodded, “So we’re hyping up our radar. Anything else?”

“Frankie will be teaching you some basic protection spells to help you fight should Mo’kurei’s minions attack you when we are not near,” Gladysia explained.

Just then Mink and Gavin flew in from outside. Mink stopped dead still in the air and Gavin slammed into the back of him.

“Clairith!” he exclaimed in shock then again, even more shocked, “Gladysia!”

“Mink,” Gladysia replied then with more distaste, “Gavin.”

“Gavin,” Claire said angrily, “You know you were forbidden from coming here. Our coven frowns greatly on same-sex relationships and we do not want such things amount our servants.”

I frowned deeply, “You don’t like gays?” Frankie was giving me another look, a very different look. He was begging me not to say anything.

“We highly frown upon their relationship,” Gladysia said sordidly, “It is repulsive and against the Book of Jah’aa. Therefore we do not promote such relationships and those that are involved in such are ejected from the coven. Mink, however; is an integral part of the maintaining of Clairith’s property and many of our coven’s rituals so we allow him to stay and forbid the presence of Gavin.”

“Well I say Gavin stays, so fuck you,” I say angrily. She looks shocked that I would speak in such a way to her, but I don’t care. “And PS, taking it up the ass is really fucking fun so get over your self.”

I stomped up the stairs. Daerin was at the top staring at me, “You are so disrespectful to a coven leader who is trying to aid you plight.”

“Fuck off,” I hiss. I march to my room and slam my door shut, then flop on my bed and grab my ipod. I stick in my ear buds and blast the Daughters into my ears. Fuckers.

Homophobes fucking piss me off like nothing else. Who the hell does she think she is, keeping Mink and Gavin apart when they’re in fucking love? That’s fucking bullshit. And Frankie just keeps quiet about it. They guys wanted to fuck me against a barn wall, but he won’t come out to a bunch of bitched with their heads up their asses.

Daerin carefully entered my room and stared at me. He said something, but I couldn’t hear with the angry Canadian music blasting out my brain. He looked at me curiously, not understanding why I wasn’t replying. I hit pause and glared at him.

“What?”

“Why does it upset you so much that they do not accept two-male relationships in their coven?”

I snort, “It just does, ok?”

“Is it because you yourself find yourself drawn to males and are upset that your grandmother does not love you as unconditionally as you once thought she did?”

I gape at him, “What the hell? You were so much cooler when you were in that damn mirror. Now you get out here and talk like an encyclopedia that ate Dr. Phil. What gives?”

He cautiously sat near me on my bed, “I was only in this world for a matter of minutes before I was imprisoned in that mirror. I don’t understand the entirety of your language, your culture…I have no idea what any of these things in here are. When I was in the mirror, I knew everything I needed to know and now that I’m out, I am discovering many different things and it is difficult for my mind to adjust so quickly.”

I sigh, “Well, you’d better get used to things quick.”

I reached to the floor and grabbed a pair of jeans. They were the tiniest pants you could ever imagine and hugged every subtle curve of my hips and thighs. You could easily see my package if you wanted to. I pulled them on and grabbed a t-shirt that was hanging out of my dresser drawer and pulled it over my head. It was completely black except for the bottom right side that had a white smudge and white circle around it. Pointing to the circle was an arrow and next to the arrow read “cumstain.” I fucking loved this shirt.

I grabbed some socks and shoes. Daerin watched me the whole time I spent getting dressed. It was a little off-setting, but I was really beyond caring. I just wanted to get out of this fucking house.

“What are you doing?” asked Daerin.

“I’m going to school,” I replied and picked up my shoulder bag from the corner, “See you when I get home.”

I walked downstairs and glared at the three adults waiting in the kitchen.

“I’m gonna go to school now,” I said, “Daerin, Mink and Gavin can hang in my room so you guys can’t funk with ‘em. I’ll be back when school gets out. You can teach me all of that defense shit later, Frankie. Bye.” And I walked out and left the house. In hindsight, I realize that was a really shit idea.
