Chapter 2: Creepy

'I've been here for tow weeks and still everything is exactly the same. Nothing ever changes,' I thought to myself as I stepped off of the bus that day. I had gotten an A on another test, my teachers had yelled at me for sleeping again, and some stupid girl kept giving me the eye. I had no interest in her and I think she got the idea when I flipped her the bird as I left the cafeteria.

Something seemed wrong that day. Frankie hadn't come to meet me when I got off the bus. The dos were somewhere chasing a rabbit or something. When a guy does the same thing every day for five weeks (save weekends) and then suddenly stops, you just know something is wrong.

Grandma wasn't in the house or the garden and Frankie wasn't in the fields. The strangeness was worrying me. I knew something was up.

God, that makes me sound like some lame-ass loser detective wannabe.

I walked over to the barn. Shiva, Siren, and Alexandra, the cows, were out in the fields while Pixie and Dustin, the horses, were in the barn eating some sort of straw or hay or whatever.

I heard something coming from the back of the barn where the workshop Frankie worked in occasionally was. I walked back there and stood by the door that was open a crack. I saw Grandma sitting on a table across from Frankie, who was leaning against the wall.

"We have to hurry, Frank. The time is coming soon. I've been doing every kind of searching spell I can think of, and still no sign of the Guardian. I'm starting to think we'll have to destroy him." I heard Grandma say and my eyes grew wide. My breath caught in my throat as I continued listening.

"Anne and Charles should have brought him to us sooner. We would have had more time," Frankie replied, but he sounded different. His normally cheerful voice was thick and heavy.

"They don't believe in the Prophecies, Frank, you know that. They still don't want to believe it."

"Clairith, do you think it's possible that the Guardian is in another realm?"

"No... No, that's impossible! Mo'kurei would never do that to us... Would she?"

"You never know with her."

I had no idea what was going on or what they were talking about. All I knew was that the whole situation scared the living shit out of me. I was curious, too. I mean, come on, people. 'The time is coming soon'? Searching spells? Guardians? Realms? This sounded like some kind of crappy clichéd fantasy story. And who the hell was Mo'kurei?

Suddenly the dogs ran over and tackled me, barking wildly and licking my face.

Claire came out with a gentle smile on her face and an empty plate in her hands.

"'Bastian, sweetie, what on earth are you doing out here in this dirty old barn?"

"Well," I said, standing up while pushing the dogs away and brushing dirt and straw off of my clothes, "Frankie didn't greet me when I got off the bus like he usually does, so I figured something was wrong. I looked for you and came out here, but the dogs jumped on top of me. What're you doing out here?"

"Frankie skipped lunch, so I brought some food out here for him. Let's go back inside, honey."

I could tell she was lying, but I didn't want her to know I had been eavesdropping, so I just kept my mouth shut.

"I'm going to stay and talk to Frankie for a while, ok?" I said. She smiled and nodded, then headed back to the house with the dogs running along with her. I frowned and walked down into the workshop.

"Hey, Sebastian," he said, looking up at me and smiling from where he was carving a design into a chair, "What're you doing out here?"

"I just came to talk. I don't really feel like getting started on my homework yet. What are you working on?"

"It's a chair Claire asked me to make. She's going to renovate that old black shed."

"Oh," I said. I hoisted myself up so that I could sit on the table behind him. He dropped one of his tools and bent down to pick it up, stretching his jeans over his butt. Ok, so he had a nice ass. Big deal. He was still a hick.

I think he noticed me looking because he stood up straight and looked at me, staring straight into my eyes. I swallowed nervously from the look in his eyes. No one had ever looked at me like that before and it made me nervous.

"Sebastian," he said softly, moving closer to me, "How's school going? Any of the girls been talking to you?"

"This one girl kept looking at me, but I wasn't interested," I replied, hoping I sounded nonchalant, but I don't think my hopes worked.

"Why not? She wasn't cute enough?"

He was standing right in front of me, slightly between my legs. He put his hands on my knees and slid them back and forth, up and down my thighs, slowly moving down further in between my legs.

"No... she was just... you know."

"No, I don't know. Tell me."

I couldn't breathe, let alone speak anymore. He slowly leaned his head down and brushed his lips against mine.

I know what you're thinking. This is where he kisses me and steals my breath away because he's my one and only and we both strip down and fuck like bunnies, right? No. It's more like he kissed me and I felt nothing. I told you before; I don't go for hicks.

He broke off the kiss and stared into my eyes.

"That was nice," I said, "But it'll never happen again, right?"

"Right." He replied.

I jumped down off of the table so that I was pressed against him. I looked up at him (since he was several inches taller than me) and gave him a fake little smile. It wasn't a real smile, not even close, but I think it made him feel better.

I headed back to the house with a million different thoughts running through my head. Surprisingly, they weren't about Frankie.

What were they hiding from me? Who were they planning to kill? Was it me? Who was the Guardian and why were they trying to find him? These questions and more ran through my head. All I knew was this whole situation was very...

Creepy...
